About

Our mission

A free companion for people navigating healthcare without a family doctor.

Clinic Compass is a free, private tool that tells you exactly what to ask for at your next walk-in visit — built for people who don't have a family doctor to ask instead.

Clinic Compass was built for the millions of people in the United States and Canada who don't have a regular family doctor — and for anyone who has ever left a walk-in visit unsure what they should have asked for. If a clinician is rushed, or the next available appointment is weeks away, you can still walk in with a clear list of the bloodwork, screenings, and vaccines that match your age, anatomy, and history.

What the site helps you do

Know what to ask for

Personalized checklists based on your date of birth, organs present, and risk factors — aligned with USPSTF, CDC, the Canadian Task Force, NACI, and ACC/AHA guidelines.

Keep track over time

Mark tests as done, record the date, and the site calculates when each one is due again — so you don't lose track between walk-in visits or clinicians.

Walk in prepared

A printable prep sheet summarizes your symptoms, medications, and questions in a format built for a busy clinician to scan in seconds.

Understand your results

Plain-language guides to common blood work and screenings, plus a symptom lookup that translates what you're feeling into the tests to ask about.

How we work

  • Free, always

No paywalls, no ads, no upsells. This is a public-good project.

  • Private by default

Your data lives on your device or in a private account tied only to you. It's sent over HTTPS and stored encrypted at rest, and database-level access rules only return rows that match your signed-in account — so the app itself can't read another user's data. We never sell, share, or show it to advertisers, clinicians, or other users.

  • Sourced and dated

Every recommendation links to the guideline body behind it, with the country toggle switching between US and Canadian sources.

  • Not a replacement for a doctor

Clinic Compass is educational. It doesn't diagnose, treat, or create a doctor-patient relationship. In an emergency, call 911.

Who built this

Clinic Compass is built by an independent creator — not a medical provider, clinic, or company. Recommendations are drawn from public guideline bodies (USPSTF, CDC, the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care, NACI, and ACC/AHA). The site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or funded by any clinic, hospital, insurer, health system, or government agency.

Known limitations, and what we're working on

This site is transparent about how it handles your data, so it should be equally transparent about its own gaps. Here's the honest state of things.

Current limitations
  • Guidance is written for Canada and the United States only. It will be wrong in places elsewhere.
  • Cost and coverage notes are researched per province/state, but programs change and clinic-level practice varies. Always confirm the price before a test.
  • Guideline bodies disagree with each other. Where they do, we say so rather than picking a winner.
  • The lab and drug tools summarize published sources; they can still get nuance wrong. They are never a second opinion.
  • Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, but it is not end-to-end encrypted — administrative database access is theoretically possible.
  • Content is reviewed on a schedule, not continuously. Every page shows the date it was last checked.

This is not medical advice. Clinic Compass is an educational tool to help you prepare for a walk-in visit. It does not create a doctor–patient relationship, does not diagnose or treat any condition, and is not a substitute for the judgement of a licensed healthcare professional who knows your history. Never delay, avoid, or change medical care because of something you read here. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.

Your information stays private. Anything you enter — profiles, dates of birth, anatomy, risk factors, completed tests, symptoms, and prep notes — is stored on your own device and, if you sign in, in your private account. It is never shared, sold, or shown to other users, advertisers, or clinicians. Only you can see the data in your account, and you can delete a profile or sign out to wipe local data at any time.
