If someone's coming with you

At most walk-in and urgent care visits you can bring a support person into the exam room with you — a partner, friend, family member, or interpreter. They can help ask the questions you wrote down, take notes on what the clinician says, and remember the follow-up instructions afterwards.

If any part of the visit feels sensitive, you can tell the clinician directly whether you'd like your support person to stay or step out. Either answer is fine, and you can change your mind partway through. Clinics may limit visitors during outbreaks, so it's worth asking at the desk when you check in.
